I have completed the planning, front cover and evaluation for my prelimary work.
I am now planning the production of my music magazine (e.g name, audience etc)
Evaluation
During the planning and production of my front cover I encountered many problems and difficulties.
The main problem at first was being aware of the background and surroundings in the picture. I realised later on that any posters, flyers or confusing backgrounds can ruin the picture. After taking my first set of pictures I realised this was a real problem, I set out to find a location within the college without any noticeable posters or anything in the background.
Also, after I had taken my first set of photos I realised that the models that I had used were wearing clothes with either confusing patterns or noticeable branding on, which meant that I was unable to use those pictures. For the second shoot I asked the models to wear plain clothes without any brand logos. A lot of the time the models looked nervous or uncomfortable in the first shoot, I ensured that they looked natural during the second shoot.
I managed to mostly stick to the original design in my planning, as there were very few alterations. Although, I’d say there is probably a little too much vacant space towards the top of the picture.
I decided to use ‘Berlin Sans FB’ for any headings as it is quite a nice, bold and formal font, which stands out on the front cover to make the heading noticeable to the audience. I used a bright orange colour for the text on the front and for the logo, this makes the text stand out from the background and catch the reader’s eye. This is quite an appealing font which is commonly used and fits the purpose quite well.
I used ‘Microsoft Publisher’ to create and alter this cover. This program enabled me to make alterations to the picture and add headings and other features. The image I used was too dark at first so I changed the brightness and contrast of the picture to make it look more natural.
In the bottom right hand corner, I added a barcode and the ‘Isle Of Man College’ logo, which makes it look very official.Overall, this picture is suitable to its purpose and the way I have set it out has allowed for lots of room to place headings in the bottom corners. If I was to do this again I would probably improve my planning. I’d ensure that everything is completely organised in advance to save time during the shoot. Also, I would make sure the models know exactly what I’m trying to achieve in the pictures.
